A Blended Approach to Technical Training

Cisco embarked on a program to experiment, measure, and report on the successes and challenges of a blended-learning methodology. The goal of the project was to train a diverse audience in networking technologies to attain the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. The topics in the certification path are networking concepts and a comprehensive introduction to Cisco-specific networking techniques. The company chose an e-learning approach that would offer a variety of media types including self-paced, Web-based component, and synchronous Web-based instruction; a virtual campus; on-site mentoring; peer review sessions; virtual labs; and qualitative and quantitative assessments.
