Using Structured On-the-Job Training to Inform New Supervisors of the Organization's Core Values
This case study describes how structured on-the-job training (OJT)
was used to inform recently promoted first-line supervisors about
an organization's four core values. The supervisors were nonmedical
personnel in a large regional hospital setting, who would usually
receive the information through group-based off-the-job training.
The structured OJT version was used to ensure that new supervisors
received the information no more than two months from the time of
their promotions. Most structured OJT focuses on presenting
technical training. The hospital's training in core values was an
example of using structured OJT for awareness training, a use that
has never before been reported. In addition, the training was
unique in that it was delivered using an inductive instructional
strategy instead of a deductive strategy. [Download PDF]
