Creating Success for Minority Students Through Mentoring
Community colleges play a significant role in providing educational
access and opportunity to a diverse student population. Each fall,
approximately half of all minority undergraduates enrolled in
higher education attend a community college. Enrolled students are
of all ages and come from different cultural and ethnic
backgrounds. According to researchers, minority students are
considered more likely to be at risk of academic failure than their
white counterparts. Consequently, community colleges are seeking
ways to increase retention and learning success of minority
students. This case study examines one such model in which
