STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Many organizations take a tactical rather than a strategic approach
to leadership development. When they do, leadership development
reacts to shortcomings in current practice rather than to
developing leaders to meet future needs. Educators know that
teaching alone will not lead to sustained change. Adult learning
theory suggests that for greater impact, there must be a strategic
plan for introducing change, and participants must have a chance to
practice new skills and use them in real-life situations. Our
leadership development model, the 4A Model, goes beyond traditional
leadership development. This model promotes sustained learning and
focuses on future needs and long-term results. It also provides
coaching support in small groups and helps participants deepen
their knowledge and skills. The leadership model has four
components: assessment, alignment, application, and achievement.
